Tutoring and Academic Assistance Programs
Tutoring Programs - Commons, Room 322 and 327
|
The goal of tutoring is to help students develop skills necessary to become independent learners and to help students achieve better understanding and a higher level of thinking about course content. The tutor will encourage and guide the learning process, but each student must accept responsibility for his/her own educational progress.
|
| Small Group Tutoring |
- Available to all UI students; join an existing group or request a new group.
- Groups begin meeting the third week of classes and continue through dead week.
- New groups are created when at least 3 students request a group for the same course (same instructor).
- Ideal group size is 3-5 students, dependent upon tutor availability.
- Opportunity for interaction with a knowledgeable tutor and classmates. Sessions provide clarification, review and reinforcement of course content.
- Group study benefits from commitment to consistent attendance that creates a positive, comfortable working relationship between tutor and tutees.
- Math 108, 143, 160, 170, 175 - please use Polya; we do not provide group tutoring.
- Stat 150, 251, 301 and 401 - please use SAC in Commons 329; we do not provide group tutoring.
Group Registration and Requests:
- The group request process ended on November 13, 2009.
- A schedule of available groups will be posted by September 4, 2009 and updated as new
groups are created.
- Drop-in Groups require no registration. If you wish to join a group that is listed on the Group Schedule
(see link below) simply show up at the time and place indicated. If the groups listed on the schedule do not meet
your needs, please complete and submit from the "Request a New Group" link, below. When we have 3
requests, another group will be formed until November 13, when the group request process ends for Fall 2009.
