History

Steel House is a cooperative living group established on the University of Idaho campus in 1952. The house is home for up to 32 diverse and extraordinary women. Members share room and board expenses and participate in household chores to reduce living expenses. All internal affairs of Steel House are run by house members and are overseen by an active, local alumnae board.

Community

If you are looking for a close-knit community of women who care about each other and their House; and a group of girls who often gather to watch TV, go to see a movie, or go out to dinner; and a place you can call home … Steel House might be for you.

Location

The Women of Steel House will reside in the facility owned by the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity at 620 Idaho Avenue, which is centrally located within an easy walk to any area of campus.

The Fall 2008 semester begins a new chapter in the history of Steel House with greater independence from the university housing system. The Women of Steel House are truly an independent living group!

Rent

Steel House provides an economical alternative for on-campus living. Members of Steel House will pay room and board of $5000/year for a double room. This includes rent, food, utilities, internet, cable, etc.

Other Benefits

Steel House members will find valuable leadership opportunities and experiences that will be assets to building a stronger resume after college. The women build lasting friendships with a unique living experience that cannot be duplicated. Selflessness, consideration, respect, understanding for others, and pride in the house characterize the Women of Steel.

Steel House is recognized by the University of Idaho as an on-campus housing option. Steel House, Inc., is under the umbrella of the Office of the Dean of Students within the Division of Student Affairs, thus we have a similar status as that of a sorority.
