Join the Women’s Center for this exciting work study opportunity where you will hone your communication and organization skills!  In this 10-hour/week work-study assignment, you will assist the Women’s Center Program Coordinator in conceptualizing, planning, and implementing exciting and innovative programs and events for UI students and faculty & staff, and local community members. You will assist with monthly and annual programs that may include scheduling meetings, arranging for film showings, tabling, selling tickets, distributing promotional material, and other activities. You will also be helping with designing flyers, writing press releases, contacting guest speakers and other facilitators, and arranging for meeting/event space. If you are interested in working with diverse constituencies, are a self-starter, enjoy motivating others, and would like to learn more about gender and equity issues, this work-study position is perfect for you!

Join the Women’s Center for this exciting work study opportunity where you will experience the workings of a Student Affairs office, where we provide programming and support services to all students on campus.  In this 10 hour/week work-study assignment, you will assist office staff with the daily operation of the Center, including maintenance of our library (shelving books, new book processing, checking out books, etc.), distributing fliers about Women’s Center and other co-sponsored events, greeting and assisting visitors to the Center, maintaining the Center’s bulletin boards, processing mail, making photocopies, ensuring the cleanliness and orderliness of the Center, and participating in special programs and events such as our Open Houses, Women’s History Month activities, and other activities of the Center.  If you are interested in Student Affairs and support services, and want to learn more about women’s issues, this position is for you!

Join the Women’s Center for this exciting work study opportunity where you will use your web and graphic design skills!  In this 10-hour/week work study assignment, you will assist the Women’s Center Director with designing eye-catching graphics for use in promoting programs, marketing services, and communicating our mission. The Webpage and Graphic Design Assistants will also play a vital role in keeping our online presence (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace) updated and current. You will also help keep the Women’s Center web page up-to-date and current, adding articles, pictures, news items, and information about programs of other campus offices. Join the Women’s Center for this exciting work study opportunity where you will use your marketing and public relations skills!  In this 10-hour/week work study assignment, you will assist the Women’s Center staff in promoting events to the local and university community. You will work closely with the graphic design assistants to develop messages that help promote upcoming events at the Center including printing promotional materials, executing mailings, coordinating postering and flyering efforts in the community and on campus, securing print ads in local media, submitting notifications to online and printed events calendars, as well as writing and submitting press releases. In addition, you will be involved in market research (via online survey software) to gauge satisfaction, user information, and other aspects of the Women’s Center audience.  If you are interested in writing, are pursuing a degree in marketing or communications, and would like to learn more about gender and women’s issues, this work study position is perfect for you!

Join the Women’s Center for this exciting work study opportunity where you will hone your communication and organization skills!  In this 10-hour/week work study assignment, you will assist the Women’s Center LGBTQA Program Advisor in providing support programs and events to LGBTQA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, and ally) students, including the UI Safe Zone program. You will assist with weekly or bi-monthly programs that may include setting meetings, arranging for showing of films, tabling, and other activities. You may help with designing flyers, writing press releases, contacting speakers and other facilitators, updating the LGBTQA Office’s Facebook page and arranging for meeting space. If you are interested in working with student groups, are a self-starter, enjoy motivating others, and would like to learn more about GLBT and gender issues, this work study position is perfect for you!

Enjoy writing? Like research? Join the Women’s Center team to help seek out potential funding opportunities. In this internship, you will investigate web resources to locate and identify grant opportunities that would help the Women’s Center offer additional programs such as bringing in guest speakers, offering new scholarships, etc. You will also help to brainstorm and initiate new Women’s Center fundraising initiatives, as well as assist in the design, printing and distribution of promotional material related to a new “Friends of the Women’s Center” program. If you are interested in learning about fundraising and ways to finance non-profit and philanthropic ventures, and would like to learn more about this opportunity, this work study position is perfect for you!
