Tutoring and Academic Assistance Programs at the University of Idaho is seeking a 12 month/full-time (1720 hours) AmeriCorps member to provide individualized and small group tutoring to at-risk college students, primarily in the area of math and science. A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in the area of math or science. Additional job requirements and preferred skills are listed at the end of this document.
The TAAP AmeriCorps member will tutor approximately 75 at-risk college students (students with learning disabilities/ADD/ADHD/academically under-prepared) on an individual (50) or small group (25) basis in science, introductory math (college algebra), and/or writing, study skills, basic computer skills and other content areas of expertise. The AmeriCorps member will mentor and model learning strategies/active learning techniques/information processing to students with disabilities/special needs. The AmeriCorps member will also be involved in several community service/service learning activities and may present several learning seminars/workshops/informational presentations per semester.

This position begins August 10, 2009. The 1720 AmeriCorps hours will primarily be completed during the academic year (40 hrs/wk) with 20-30 hours per week between May 15-July 31st. Evening work may be required during the academic year. AmeriCorps hours begin September 1st. The TAAP AmeriCorps member is responsible to the Director of Student Support Services and to the Director of the Lewis Clark Service Corps (LCSC).
The AmeriCorps member will receive a stipend of $11,400 for the year through Lewis Clark Service Corps, and will receive an educational stipend of $4,725 at the completion of service. In addition, the AmeriCorps member is eligible for health insurance through Lewis Clark Service Corps.
