Loan Repayment Information

If you are leaving the University of Idaho, because you are graduating, transferring or taking some time away from school, you should attend one of the Exit Counseling Workshops presented by Student Financial Aid Services.

If you are unable to attend one of the sessions, you have several options.

  • You may use the links below.
  • You may come to the office and pick up one of our brochures on repayment.
  • You may check out our videotapes which explain the process.
  • You may make an appointment with your Financial Aid Advisor.
  • You may complete an exit session on-line.

Using the Web to Manage Your Direct Loans

1. Get your PIN - All borrowers of Direct Loans receive a Federal PIN number. If you don't have yours go to this web site and request it.

  • www.pin.ed.gov - The U.S. Department of Education's PIN Site. You will need a PIN number to access most federal web sites - not just student loan websites. You may use this web site to request your PIN and as your central online resource for making use of the PIN.

2. Get your loan history - You should get your loan history from this web site and make sure it reconciles with your records.

  • www.nslds.ed.gov- The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) is the U.S. Department of Education's central database for student aid. Use this website to get information on the loans you have borrowed while attending college.

3. Manage your Direct Loans

  • www.dlservicer.ed.gov - Direct Loans Servicing Online. On-line access for information on your existing Direct Loan(s). You may access your account information, view your loan balance, change your address, and download deferment, forbearance, and electronic debit forms. You can view your payment history, change your payment due date and select a new repayment plan using the repayment estimator that provides payment amounts using your actual Direct Loan balances in the Direct Loan system.
  • www.loanconsolidation.ed.gov - The Direct Consolidation Loan Information Center. Use this website to obtain information about Direct Loan consolidation.
  • www.finaid.org/calculators/loanpayments.phtml - This calculator will assist you in calculating your monthly payments.

Perkins Loan Repayment

The UI Student Loan Office (a division of Student Accounts) administers the Perkins Loan program. Due to the size of the program, UI contracts billing services to Campus Partners (formerly AMS). The telephone number at UI Student Loan office is 885-5571 and Campus Partners toll free number is 1-800-334-8609.

Electronic Debit Account

Borrowers who repay their Direct Loans or Direct Consolidation Loan using electronic debiting receive a quarter of one-percent point (.25%) discount on interest rate being used to calculate your loan repayment. For example, if the calculated interest rate during repayment is is 4.06% and you choose to repay your loans via electronic debiting, the interest rate for repayment would be 3.81%.
