Student Loan Repayment Workshops
|
|
 |
These workshops are presented to take the mysteries out of the loan repayment process, to satisfy the federal requirements that all Direct Loan borrowers receive an exit interview, and to help remove "loan repayment stress". They provide information on federal loan repayment and are helpful for students who are graduating or transferring to another school. (Note this does not satisfy the Perkins loan requirement for exit interviews. For Perkins Loans see www.mycampusloan.com. Contact UI Student Accounts at 885-5571 for further information on Perkins.)
Some of the topics covered in the workshops are:
Consolidation: Save money by locking in lower interest rates by consolidating your loans. Avoid multiple monthly payments?
Grace Periods: When do I have to start repaying?
Deferment: Going on to Graduate school? Entering the military? Expecting a child? Learn about all the deferment options.
Forbearance: Temporary postponement of monthly payments.
Loan forgiveness programs: Do they exist and how do they work?
If students did not attend any of the workshops, they may request repayment information be sent to them, make an appointment with their financial aid advisor for a one-on-one session, or complete an exit counseling session online. However, loan repayment can be confusing and by not attending a workshop in person, students miss out on valuable information and hints that will make the process less mysterious. No reservations are necessary. If students have questions they should contact Student Financial Aid Services at 885-6312 (finaid@uidaho.edu).
