Application deadlines:

Fall Semester (August to December) - May 1

Spring Semester (Jan to May) -October 1

Summer Term  (Begins mid May) - March 15

Please Note:  Complete applications along with all required supporting documents must be received in the Admissions Office by the deadlines stated above.

Academic requirements:

For Admissions purposes, international students must meet academic and language requirements.  Admission is dependent on credentials that demonstrate the applicant's capacity to succeed academically at the university level. It is recognized that equivalents between curricula of other countries and that of the United States are essentially nonexistent. Therefore, UI evaluates foreign courses and academic transcripts in terms of approximations. Individual department requirements may be more rigorous than the general UI requirements. In those situations, final admission is based on the department's decision. Students who meet academic requirements but who fall short of the UI's minimum language requirements can apply for deferred admission. For access to admission requirement information by country please click here.

Freshmen:

Undergraduate applicants who have no previous work at the postsecondary level must have at least a 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) from a secondary school and must also meet the criteria for admission to a postsecondary school in the applicant's home country.

Transfer Students:

Undergraduate applicants who have attended a postsecondary-level institution and have completed at least 14 transferable semester credits at an accredited institution must present a minimum grade point average of 2.00 for all postsecondary work. For admission into the College of Engineering, transfer students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.80. Other departments may have additional requirements. Students who have completed fewer than 14 transferable semester credits (postsecondary) must meet the secondary school GPA requirements in addition to the postsecondary transfer requirements.

Please Note: Students transferring to the UI from another U.S. college or university MUST notify their current International Student Advisor of their plans to transfer to the University of Idaho.  More information regarding the SEVIS transfer process can be found here.

Students must submit:

  • An international application for admission.
  • $70 application fee (non-refundable)
  • Proof of English proficiency.
  • Official secondary school transcript showing subjects and marks received and graduation date. If you have not yet graduated from secondary school, a transcript showing all completed work may be accepted for early admission. External examination reports should be provided when applicable.
  • Official transcripts with subjects and marks received from any colleges or universities attended.
  • Certified, literal translations of all credentials issued in any language other than English.  Detailed information regarding UI's policy for academic transcripts and certified translations can be found here.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Students applying after the above stated deadlines or with incomplete files by these deadlines can still be considered for admission if they have their educational credentials evaluated by a professional evaluation service.  The four professional credential evaluation services from which the University of Idaho will accept evaluations are listed here.

Financial Support:

In order to study in the U.S., students must also meet financial requirements as set by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.  Cost estimates can be found here.
