International Students
Your future is waiting, and the University of Idaho is ready to help you on your journey with challenging courses, a safe campus, affordable fees, extensive career development and a sense of belonging.
Academic requirements:
All Graduate School applicants must possess the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor degree. For access to our Bachelor’s Equivalency page, please click here.
For Admissions purposes, international students must meet academic and language requirements. Admission is dependent on credentials that demonstrate the applicant's capacity to succeed academically at the university level.
UI evaluates foreign courses and academic transcripts in terms of approximations. We will accept evaluations from professional credential evaluation services. A list of the five professional credential evaluation services from which the University of Idaho will accept evaluations can be found here.
Individual department requirements may be more rigorous than the general UI requirements. In those situations, final admission is based on the department's decision. Students who meet academic requirements but who fall short of the UI's minimum language requirements can apply for deferred admission. To apply for Deferred Admission you must submit all other required documents.
Online Courses/Programs:
Immigration regulations require that international students holding student visas are certified as full-time students during the academic year.
F-1 graduate students are required to be enrolled in 9 credit hours and are allowed to take up to 3 credits of on-line coursework towards this requirement.
J-1 visa holders are also required to enroll in 9 credit hours, but are not allowed to take online classes toward the 9-credit requirement.
