General Information and Services
In this section:
The University of Idaho, the state's land grant and principal research institution, serves the region and nation as well as international clientele by providing programs in engineering, art and architecture, mining and metallurgy, forestry and recreation education, agriculture and consumer sciences, business education and economics, and the liberal arts. It maintains resident instruction centers in Coeur d'Alene, Boise and Idaho Falls, extension centers in 42 of Idaho's 44 counties, and seven research and extension centers throughout the state. An active International Programs Office helps extend and promote the university around the globe. Located in Moscow, a community of 20,000, the university boasts a friendly student atmosphere and a feeling of camaraderie that is engendered by a low student/professor ratio and a service-oriented staff. Moscow is the gateway to a natural wonderland. It is surrounded by the Palouse hills and the mountains and lakes of northern Idaho, providing an idyllic summer setting. This is the Idaho of National Geographic fame. Skiing, boating, white-water rafting, hiking and camping are popular pastimes. The Sawtooth Mountains and Hells Canyon recreation areas, and the Frank Church River of No Return are within easy driving distance. In the summer, Moscow is host to a variety of entertainment opportunities. The Fresh Air Concert Series offers a different program every Thursday evening in the East City Park. The Farmers' Market (where over 75 area vendors--featuring fresh produce, homemade baked goods, bedding plants, flowers and crafts--sell their wares) is open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Students and residents of the Moscow community can enjoy summer evenings by attending an Idaho Repertory Theatre (IRT) production. The IRT offers some of the best entertainment in the region as people gather on the UI campus to experience live theatre. Come, learn and celebrate summer at the University of Idaho.

Getting to Moscow is Easy
Moscow is an easy drive of 90 minutes from Spokane, Washington, which is served by major airlines (Horizon Air serves Moscow). Bus service from the Spokane airport can be arranged for a beautiful drive through the Palouse countryside. The Lewiston airport is just a 35 minute drive from Moscow and bus service can also be arranged.
Summer session is considered to be the end of the academic year; therefore, the amount of financial aid money left to be awarded is very limited. The most common type of financial aid available is the Direct Ford Loan. To be considered for financial aid for summer, a student must:
- Complete and submit a paper or web Summer School Financial Aid Application (available in early April)
- File a current 2006720078FAFSA with Student Financial Aid Services
- Enroll at least half time (6 credits undergraduate, 5 credits graduate) during the summer session.
Students who wish to borrow from the Direct Ford, PLUS or law/private loan programs may wish to make an appointment with a financial aid advisor to discuss their possible eligibility for a summer school loan. For more information call the Student Financial Aid Office (208) 885-6312 or visit their web site at www.students.uidaho.edu/finaid.

Internships
Summer is the perfect time to move beyond the classroom and discover the advantages of an internship. Internships give students relevant work experience, the chance to develop professional skills and the opportunity to make contacts in a chosen career field. All this and UI credit too! Cooperative Education can help students find academically relevant work experience. The Cooperative Education staff works with academic departments and potential employers to connect students with an appropriate work experience. Co-op Ed staff will critique resumes and help students focus their internship search on career-oriented opportunities. Using MonsterTRACK's extensive database of available jobs and internships, students can locate national internship positions, as well as internships available through companies that regularly recruit UI students.
For more information, contact:
University of Idaho Cooperative Education PO Box 442534 Moscow ID 83844-2534 Phone: (208) 885-5822 E-mail: cooped@uidaho.edu www.webs.uidaho.edu/cooped

A new outdoor stage near the theatre is the site for under-the-stars performances of the season's Shakespeare plan, complete with a Green Show of live musicians before each show. Call the UI Ticket Office at (208) 885-7212 or toll-free at 1-888-8UIDAHO.
