About OELA

Organización de Estudiantes Latino Americanos is dedicated to increasing the enrollment and retention of Mexican/Mexican-American/Chicano/Latino students at institutions of higher education as part of a vision to increase the representation of Latinos in industry and education.
OELA is involved in many event/activities such as Semana de la Raza, Cesar Chavez Celebration, Jazz Festival, Cinco de Mayo, Saturday of Service, Hispanic Heritage Month, Multicultural Education Conference, Hispanic Youth Symposium, student panels and discussion groups covering a broad range of issues faced by the Latino community and other members of underrepresented groups at institutions of higher education, and Vandal Challenge.
By leading through its many programs and sponsored activities, OELA hopes to inform others of the challenges Mexican/Mexican-American/Chicano/Latino students face on campus today and to share successful strategies to increase retention and graduation rates for such students.
In addition, OELA wants to share a culture that is built on a rich tradition of respect and understanding as it helps pave the road for academic excellence for its members and participants of its programs.
Among the many activities OELA is involved with during the academic year, its most recognized and award winning event is the Vandal Challenge Leadership Conference.
