The University of Idaho offers several thousands of dollars in merit-based scholarships in many areas of study, tuition assistance in some technical areas of study, and graduate assistantships on the basis of academic record and Test of English as a Second Language (TOEFL).
New Undergraduate Students:
International students are considered for merit-based scholarships and tuition assistance programs. The University of Idaho instituted a program several years ago to offer partial tuition waiver scholarships to deserving international, beginning, or transfer applicants at the undergraduate level. Students with a high school or secondary grade point average (GPA) equivalent to 3.00 are automatically considered for one of these scholarships. Some tuition waiver scholarships are renewable two to four years, as long as the student-recipient maintains a 3.00 UI cumulative GPA and does not have other tuition waivers that total more than the full amount of out-of-state tuition.
How to Apply
There is no separate form needed to apply for one of these scholarships. The International Application for Admission Form also serves as the application for a tuition waiver scholarship as well as other merit-based scholarships at UI.
Deadline: February 15
The "PRIORITY DATE" to apply for one of these scholarships is February 15 of each year for an award to begin the subsequent fall semester. By submitting an application for the University of Idaho on or before the priority date, students may also be automatically considered for departmental merit scholarships.
Tuition waiver scholarships for the subsequent fall semester may be awarded to students who apply after the February 15th priority date if there is additional funding available. However, those who comply with the priority date of February 15th will be given first priority.
Scholarships may be available for students who apply to enter during the spring semester if funds remain after the fall awards are assigned. First priority is given to students who enter in the fall semester.
New Graduate Students:
International students are considered for merit-based financial assistance. At the graduate level, assistance is usually given in the form of teaching or research assistantships. Each individual department has its own system of administering its assistantships. Graduate applicants who wish to apply for either type of assistantship must contact the department to which they are applying to find out how and when to apply. Generally, assistantships for fall semester are awarded to applicants who have applied by the February 15th priority date.
Continuing Students
Continuing students will be considered automatically for merit-based scholarships and tuition assistance as long as they enroll as a full-time student each semester. No separate applications are required. Graduate students interested in teaching or research assistantships should contact their academic department. Federal Financial Aid
Most international students are not eligible to receive federal (U.S.) financial aid. However, if they meet the following requirements they may qualify for federal aid:
